The Audi R8 is a high-performance sports car produced by Audi, featuring a mid-engine layout, which was manufactured from 2006 until March 2024, with a total of 45,949 units produced. Known as one of the last supercars to utilize a natural-aspiration engine, it is renowned for its V10 power, striking design, and everyday usability.
The first generation, produced from 2006 to 2015, debuted with a 4.2-liter V8 engine before adding a more powerful 5.2-liter V10 engine sourced from the Lamborghini Gallardo. Early models offered either a distinct six-speed gated manual transmission or an R tronic automated manual gearbox, which was later upgraded to a fast-shifting seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission during a mid-cycle refresh. A hallmark design element of this generation was the contrasting vertical side blade, which served both as a visual signature and a functional air intake for the mid-mounted engine. nnThe second generation arrived in 2015, sharing its aluminum and carbon-fiber modular sports car platform with the Lamborghini Huracu00e1n. Audi dropped the V8 engine option for this generation, focusing exclusively on variations of the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10. This generation introduced a sharper, more angular exterior design and a minimalist interior focused entirely on the driver. The traditional central infotainment screen was eliminated, replacing it with the Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel.
